Upgrading UKnow4Kids with pacman (pacman -Syu) was a dismal failure. So, rather than tearing my hair out, I am rebuilding UKnow4Kids from scratch with the current build of ArchLinux. I also plan to avail myself of the latest version of larch. This may mean a little slippage in my quarterly deadline for version 2010.2.1, but I look forward to having Gcompris 9.3 rolled out with this version.
Just began work on this quarter’s release. More later. Hope to also have a USB key version to share.
The UKnow4Kids educational linux distribution cruises past 500 downloads 1 month after posting. Yippee!!
UKnow4Kids was just listed on Softpedia, “the encyclopedia of free software downloads.” Meanwhile, the acceleration of web site traffic and downloads continues. Exciting!
UKnow4Kids was just placed on the waiting list for inclusion on DistroWatch. This seems to have corresponded with a sharp increase in traffic to the website from 3-4 per day to 56 so far today (Friday, February 26). Visitors are from around the globe: mostly North America and Europe, but a few sprinklings in Asia and Oceania. There’s been a concurrent spike in downloads from SourceForge, which suddenly jumped from 3 to 13 overnight. It’s exciting to finally have this momentum going. I welcome comments from users on how to improve the distribution. Hurrah!
The UKnow4Kids Schwag Store is open for business on Zazzle. T-shirts- coffee mugs, mousepads, and more! Proceeds from sales go to recouping UKnow4Kids expenses (mostly hosting), and any surplus money goes to the GCompris educational project.
On February 17, I uploaded to SourceForge version 2010.1.1 of the UKnow4Kids ISO with the new Arch Linux core. Enjoy! I have also updated the website and added screenshots. Some time in 1Q 2010 I hope to also release a USB image for those who like to boot from a USB key.
UKnow4Kids is finally fully operational again on SourceForge, plus I’ve added a couple of screenshots. Over the next week, I will be adding more screenshots to both the SourceForge and project websites, and generally updating the project website.
The UKnow4Kids project page is back up on SourceForge, but the ISO file is missing. Awaiting a fix from SourceForge.
UKnow4Kids on SourceForge is still down, but they’re working on it.
